The National Sports Lottery (NSL) plc is currently deploying 30,000 i8550 POS terminals. This is aimed at making the lottery game easily accessible in more locations nationwide. NSL plc is the organiser and sponsor of the Lotto Nigeria game show. Lotto Nigeria is a weekly lottery game show that is drawn twice a week (Saturdays and Wednesdays).

Lotto Nigeria involves selecting six numbers from 49 possible options. If player matches all six drawn number he/she wins the jackpot. Players that match five, four or three number also win various sums.

The deployment of these i8550 POS terminals by NSL plc will enable NSL penetrate the market as it will make the game more accessible to more people.

i8550 is a wireless, portable and rugged POS terminal for secure electronic payment and multiple transaction applications. i8550 is a user friendly POS terminal manufactured by the Ingenico group, a leading global provider of secure transaction and electronic payment solutions.

i8550 communicates wirelessly via GPRS/GSM and is equipped with a keypad. i8550 terminal supports different payment options like Debit, Credit and other Smart cards. It also supports payment via signature capture and barcode scanning. i8550 POS terminal is powered with a lithium ion battery. A built-in easy to load thermal printer enables users print bills and other transaction messages.

NSL plc is collaborating with Valucard, the joint acquirer of Visa international in Nigeria, to enable Visa and VPay cardholders to purchase from shops that deploy this i8550 POS.

Other services that are possible with this POS terminal are the purchase of mobile phone recharge cards and fund/cash transfer. Presently mobile networks like MTN, Celtel, glo and Starcomms are supported.

i8550 terminals will be deployed in shops, eating joints, restaurants, supermarkets, hotels and in other locations where secure and convenient payments are required.

According to Ingenico group, over 11 million of these i8550 terminals have been deployed worldwide.
