When buying used cars, care must be taken before making payment. The car engine should be tested and all papers (vehicle documents) should be complete. It is a good idea to test used cars properly before making any payment. Note that although Tokunbo cars may be cheaper, maintenance cost may be high. Warranty on used cars from dealers may be short or absent.
Used cars are either sold directly by their owners or through used cars dealers. Used cars dealers also import used cars from all over the world mostly from Japan, UK, Europe, and United States to Nigeria. Note that some major cars dealers in Nigeria also sell used cars via their trade-in programmes
Make sure you inspect the car and the seller before making payment. Also find out all required vehicle documents and make sure they are available for the used car. If you are buying from an individual owner make sure to setup a meeting in a public area.
You can find listings of used cars in national newspapers and classified Ads sites like Carmundi, Cheki, and OLX with contacts of the sellers. Call the used cars seller, ask questions and setup a meeting. Be cautious, there are a lot of fraudsters out there.
When buying used cars, it a good idea to buy from a seller within your city. Note that you need to inspect the car in person, so buying used cars from outside your city will involve traveling.
