Nokia N900 is an Internet tablet, a likely successor of the Nokia N810 tablet. However, unlike Nokia N810, the Nokia N900 is also a smartphone, coming with cellular phone (GSM/3G) functionality. Nokia N900 features Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, Mozilla browser, as well as support for GoogleTalk and Skype for VOIP (Internet call).
Nokia N900 is a member of the NSeries range and like the N810 runs the Maemo Linux OS, but on the a more powerful processor. Nokia N900 runs the latest Maemo Linux OS (Maemo 5) on a 600MHz processor. There are also two other separate processors a graphics engine and a digital signal processor. Nokia N900 has a QWERTY keyboard, built-in GPS navigation, a 5 Megapixel camera, built-in VGA web camera, built-in media player, Nokia Ovi maps, and so on.
Nokia N900 comes with a 3.5-inch resistive WVGA touchscreen offering a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and a colour depth of 16 million. Like the Nokia N810, the N900 has a physical slide out QWERTY keyboard, the Nokia N900’s keyboard has been redesigned for faster and easier typing. An onscreen keyboard is also available.
Nokia N900 supports Internet connectivity via Wi-Fi 802.11b/g. Unlike the N810 tablet that is exclusively an Internet Tablet, the Nokia N900 is both an Internet Tablet and a Smartphone, so normal phone functionality are available on N900. Support for VOIP software like Skype and Google Talk means you can make cheap or free calls over the Internet. Nokia N900 supports quad-band GSM as well as 3G/3.5G (UMTS/HSDPA). Internet can also be accessed via cellular networks on GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, and HSDPA.
Nokia N900 features an 5 megapixel camera with WVGA video recording capability. Other camera features include Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, Dual LED flash, 3x digital zoom, video light, Geo-tagging, and so on. Nokia N900 has a front facing secondary camera/Web cam for video calling and internet video conferencing.
Nokia N900 supports mobile navigation with built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS support and preloaded Nokia Ovi maps. You can search for places, addresses, Wi-Fi hotspots, and other points of interest POI. If Nokia navigation service is available in your country, you can also get turn-by-turn voice directions to POIs and traffic information on Nokia N900.
Nokia N900 has a built-in media player for your entertainment. Most popular audio and video formats are supported. Enjoy your music and video from anywhere. Stream movies and videos right from your phone. Nokia N900 has a sizable internal memory of 32GB, with an option of adding an additional 16GB microSD memory card.
Short-range wireless connectivity is enabled on Nokia N900 via Bluetooth 2.1 while USB 2.0 provides wired short-range connectivity. You can transfer files from/to your computer via Bluetooth or USB as well as share content with other Bluetooth/USB enabled devices. With Bluetooth, you can connect your computer to the internet using Nokia N900 as a wireless modem.
Nokia N900 allows you download contents like games, music, ringtones, videos, movies, TV programmes, and pictures to your mobile phone. Nokia N900 also support media streaming, enabling you to stream videos, movies, and live broadcasts.
