Facebook Timeline is not just for personal profiles, business and fan pages will also be getting Facebook Timeline. In fact, by March 31, 2012 all business and fan pages on Facebook will be on Timeline whether they want it or not. Facebook Timeline for personal profiles and pages share a lot in common but there are a few differences.
To get the new Timeline follow the alert on top of your page next time you login to your business page. Facebook have rested important marketing features of pages like the default page landing on the new Facebook Timeline but has added a number of other features like the cover photo as well as pinned and starred stories.
Marketing on Facebook Timeline
Like on personal profiles, fan pages also gets a Facebook cover photo. This is a good place to leave a good first impression with your fans. Note however that Facebook have some rules on how to use your photo cover. You are not expected to add price information or discounts or even calls to action and contact information on your Facebook cover photo. Just add a photo that represents what your brand is all about. You can also use it to welcome your fans.
Also like on personal profiles, you can highlight posts on Facebook Timeline using the starred feature. This enables you expand the width of a post, giving it more prominence.
Perhaps one feature that is unique to fan pages is the ability to pin a post to the top. When you pin a post, a copy of it goes to the top of your timeline, just below the update form irrespective of its current order on your timeline. This is a good way to highlight an important post that is being crowded by less important updates.
Note that you can only pin one post at a time. You can unpin a post at any time. However, whether you unpin a post or not Facebook will automatically unpin it after 7 days. Yes, you cannot pin a post beyond 7 days on your Facebook Timeline.
