Jumia, the number one online store in Nigeria has finally built a mobile website. During our recent overview of leading online stores in Nigeria, one of the weakness we spotted in Jumia was that the website was not mobile optimised. Well, Jumia has now optimised their website for mobile, making it easy to shop online on your mobile phone.
So, click Jumia on your mobile phone and start shopping online on mobile.
Going Mobile makes Sense
Majority of Nigerians browse the internet using mobile phones. I will say over 55% based on the traffic we get on our websites. Hence, going mobile is key to success for any type of business. For an online store it makes more sense. It enables consumers easily browse products without having to scroll left and right and zoom in and out.
Overview of Jumia Online Store
The Jumia Store looks great. The mobile site is smart and automatically detects whether you on mobile and redirects you to the mobile site automatically. The mobile site is simple with just the logo, a search bar for easily searching for products, and a list of the main categories. In the bottom of the site, you will see a link for viewing the desktop version, in case you prefer that. Clicking on any of the main category menus will reveal its subcategories.
Clicking on the subcategories will show the products in the subcategory in a two column display format. The item page shows you photos of the item, its price, a buy now button, and other important shopping details. You click on the Buy Now button to start the shopping process.
The mobile website loads fast and is clear and uncluttered showing only the most important features. However it is not perfect yet. I noticed that after the first four product rows on the products page, the rest of the products are all mixed up together like shown in the screen-shot below.
It will also be a good idea to change the products display to one-column format in smaller screen mobile phones.
Jumia going mobile is really great. Consumers can now easily shop with their mobile phones without having to deal with a battery-sucking desktop website. For Jumia and partners, it means more engagement on mobile and more sales. So, it is win win for all.
