The Wiko brand is a relatively new brand in Nigeria, but the French mobile brand boasts of a number of good quality smartphones at reasonable prices and the Wiko Getaway is joining the lineup with its sleek and attractive look. Checkout Wiko Getaway Unboxing.
The design
The Wiko Getaway is a looker. It is one of the most beautiful smartphones that I have seen this year. It offers a premium look and feel, thanks to the leather finishing on the back and the smooth Aluminium frames.
I also love the way the metal frames extends to the bottom bezel giving it an edgy look and leaving no one in doubt that the Wiko Getaway is a premium device.
Wiko Getaway’s looks is also helped by its super slim profile, measuring just 7.2 mm thick. It is also super light at just 133 g. The review unit we got from Wiko is the Black and Gold model, but the smartphone will also be available in White and Silver, Navy, or Coral.
On the front of the phone sits the 5-inch IPS display. Below it is the three capacitive touch buttons and below that is the Aluminium bottom bezel that adds to the overall aesthetics of the Wiko Getaway. Above the screen, you see the Wiko inscription sandwiched by earpiece and the 5 megapixels front camera.
The front of the phone is protected by scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 2, except for the bottom bezel, which like I said earlier comes with Aluminium finishing.
On the back of the Wiko Getway you see the 13 megapixels camera and LED Flash on the top with the loudspeaker on the lower end. The back offers a leather finishing that adds to the aesthetics and enhances grip.
The top side of the phone houses the 3.5mm jack for your earbud.
On the bottom side of the Wiko Getaway, you will find the microUSB port and the mouthpiece.
On the right side of the phone are the rockers for power and volume control. The SIM 1 tray is also located on this side.
You push-in the SIM ejector PIN into the tiny hole on the side of the tray in order to push-out the tray. The SIM 1 slot requires micro SIM.
On the left side of the Wiko Getaway, you find another tray. This tray can either take an additional SIM (which must be a Nano SIM) or a microSD card for adding additional storage of up to 32GB to the built-in 16GB storage.
The Display
Wiko Getaway features a brilliant 5-inch touchscreen with 720 x 1280 pixels resolution or 294 pixels per inch. The display offers a great viewing experience, which makes it great for watching movies and browsing the web.
Wiko Getaway offers great indoor and outdoor view. The outdoor view was very impressive even under direct sunlight. It offers both automatic and manual brightness, but the Wiko Getaway offers the best automatic brightness performance I have seen of all the smartphones I have reviewed this year.
This is convenient as once you choose automatic brightness, you do not have to be going into settings to tweak the brightness each time you move indoors or outdoors. However, the brightness settings of Wiko Getaway like that os most phones is set to manual brightness. So, to enjoy this convenience you have to change the brightness settings.
The Cameras
Wiko Getaway sports a 13 megapixels camera on the back with an LED flash. It also features autofocus, HDR and zero shutter delay. A 5 megapixels camera sits on the front and is great for taking selfies and wefies as well as for your video chat. Both cameras offer good quality photos.
In addition, the front and rear camera can record full HD (1080p) videos.
The Performance
Wiko Getaway comes with the Mediatek MT6582 chipset with quad-core processors clocked at up to 1.3GHz each. 1GB of RAM is provided. The phone ran smoothly when playing games like Traffic Racer. Video streaming was also seamless.
Wiko Getaway scored a modest 16618 on AnTuTu Benchmark test. General performance and battery performance is average.
Wiko Getaway comes with a gyroscope sensor, which gives it a great experience for game playing.
Wiko Getaway sports a 2000 mAh Li-Po battery, which is non-removable. The battery performance is decent and can go up to 16 hours of responsible use. However, like I always warn, how long a battery lasts depends on how you use your phone.
For example, after using the Wiko Getaway as a Wi-Fi hotspot for about 5 hours, the phone 46% battery capacity left.
The Software
Wiko Getaway runs on Android 4.4.2 (KitKat). It runs on stock Android, so you have the familiar Android interface.
Wiko Getaway comes with just one row of shortcuts on the home screen, but you can add an additional row like below.
You can also add a digital clock or any of the other included widgets.
As you would expect, clicking on the middle icon in the bottom row takes you to the App Drawer for a list of apps and settings on your phone.
Wiko Getaway comes with just a handful of apps. In fact, only the Google suite of apps like Search, YouTube, Maps, Photos, Gmail, and Google+ are preloaded. So, you have to download more apps at the Google Play store. You have about 13GB of free space to use and if you need more, you can add an additional 32GB via the microSD slot.
Conclusion
Wiko Getaway is an amazing looking phone. Its sleek design and premium Aluminium build is bound to turn heads in any crowd.
The 5-inch display is bright indoors and outdoors, offering great viewing experience for watching movies and browsing the web anywhere you are and with a gyroscope sensor gaming excitement will go through the roof.
So, if you are looking for a gorgeous looking phone with modest performance for all your communications and entertainment needs, you should consider the Wiko Getaway.
