Display and Camera
This ZTE flagship smartphone is fitted with a screen that measure 5.5 inches diagonally, putting it in the phablet territory. The screen has a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
ZTE Grand S3 has been given an upgrade in the camera department, compared to the Grand S2. The rear camera now uses a 16-megapixel sensor, while the front-facing camera has been boosted to 8 megapixels for great selfies and wefies. The rear camera can also record 2160p ultra HD (4k) video.
Power and Performance
A quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at an impressive 2.5GHz – faster than some laptops – powers the ZTE Grand S3. The device runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) operating system overlaid by the Chinese smartphone manufacturer’s own custom user interface. ZTE could have scored better points with the phones if it had provided the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop on it, but hopely an upgrade should be in the pipeline.
Performance is supported by an enhanced RAM of 3GB and a decent battery of 3100mAh capacity. ZTE Grand S3 offers 16GB Internal storage, which is expandable to up to 64GB using a microSD.
Eye Scanner
The most noteworthy feature on the ZTE Grand S3 is one called Eyeprint ID. This is a biometric security feature based on technology developed by EyeVerify. This innovative feature is more secure than the use of PIN codes and patterns to lock a smartphone. Codes and patterns can possibly be guessed.
Once you have set up the Eyeprint ID, you only need to look at the front camera of your ZTE Grand S3 to unlock it. It’s that simple. The biometric solution is able to identify the pattern of blood vessels in the eyes of a user and uses that to unlock the ZTE Grand S3.
Compatible apps can also be configured to request eye scanning before granting access. The biometric solution is secure to the extent that the smartphone cannot be unlocked using the photo or video of its owner, quoting ZTE.
