Showing off a stunning design, the new Huawei flagship Mate S is the first smartphone in the world to support a display with pressure-sensitive Force Touch technology, which was first seen on Apple’s MacBook. Huawei Mate S features a massive AMOLED display, a multi-function fingerprint scanner and has a sturdy octa-core processor doing all the heavy lifting under the hood.
The Design
Huawei Mate S is simply a beauty to behold with its premium aluminium chassis. The phone comes in attractive Luxurious Gold, Titanium Grey or Mystic Champagne finish and boasts water-resistant Nano-coating.
In spite of its huge size and metal construction, the Huawei Mate S is interestingly slim and relatively lightweight at 7.2 millimetres and around 156 grams respectively. It should be comfortable holding one of this in your hand.
The Display
Buyers are in for superb viewing experience on the Mate S with its huge 5.5-inch AMOLED display with Full HD resolution. The highlight of the device, however, is the Force Touch support – on the Luxury Edition – which makes it the first smartphone with such. Of course, the iPhone 6S have since joined with its 3D Touch.
The variable pressure touch system can be used to magnify portions of an image, weigh objects and navigate through screens and pages, amongst other functions, with the use of varying pressure levels.
Camera and Storage
Huawei Mate S rocks a heavy-duty 13-megapixel with dual-tone flash, autofocus and optical image stabilisation (OIS). It also has an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with soft lighting flash for awesome selfies.
The Mate S phablet will be available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB (Luxury) storage versions. It is not clear if storage expansion will be possible.
Processor and Other Features
Powering away under the hood is an octa-core Hisilicon Kirin 935 processor, with four cores running clocked at 2.2 GHz and another four at 1.5 GHz. The 64-bit processor is given backing by ample 3 GB of RAM for seamless multitasking.
Huawei Mate S runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS with Huawei’s Emotion UI 3.1 skin.
Huawei Mate S gets needed juice from a 2700 mAh battery. It features an integrated fingerprint sensor which can be used for multiple purposes, including unlocking, taking a selfie and scrolling pages. The phablet supports super-fast 4G LTE connectivity.
