Microsoft Band 2 is the successor to last year’s Microsoft Band, which cannot exactly be described as a hit. Microsoft Band 2 shows off a more attractive curved design and brings along some interesting new features geared mostly towards helping you live healthier.

The Design
Microsoft has obviously acted on reservations about the look of the original Band. The unpleasant sharp edges are gone and in their place you have nice curves. To boost the appeal of Microsoft Band 2, the position of the battery has shifted into the clasp which used to secure the device firmly to your wrist.
The fitness tracker is fitted with a curved, colour AMOLED display that is protected by tough Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The IP68-certified Band 2 will be available in small, medium and large sizes.
Sensors and Fitness Tracking
To some people, Microsoft Band had too many sensors than they needed; its successor has added more to bring the total number to 11. Most fitness trackers, including the high-end ones, have only an accelerometer, a built-in GPS and a heart rate monitor.
In addition to those, the Microsoft Band 2 also adds a barometer, a V02 (maximum oxygen consumption rate) monitor, a skin temperature sensor and more. This means better fitness tracking capability.
It keeps track of your daily physical activities, steps taken, distance covered and calories burned to help you see how well you are doing in terms of achieving your fitness goals. You can also monitor your sleep quality with Microsoft Band 2.
A Microsoft Health app helps to analyse information gathered so that you can take necessary steps for improvement. The app is compatible with Android, iOS and Windows platforms.
Additional Information
Microsoft Band 2 can be used to access call and calendar notifications on a paired phone. You can use it to preview emails, receive SMSes and check for updates on your social media accounts. Replies can also be sent to text messages by either dictating such with the help of Cortana or using a standard response.
The wearable will offer same two-day battery life. Golf players will find its automatic shot detection and scorecard features useful – these help track swings and scores.
Pricing and availability
Microsoft Band 2 costs $249.99 and is available for pre-order in the United States. The smart band will start shipping in by October 30 2015 and can be purchased from either a Microsoft retail store near you or at the Microsoft Store online. It is not yet available in Nigeria and we currently have no data on pricing and availability for Nigeria.
