Design and Display
The LG G5 shows off solid unibody design with a chassis made of anodized aluminium. The 2016 flagship smartphone, which measures about 8mm thick, in a way, feels like a more compact version of the Google Nexus 6P. It makes for more comfortable handling than the other device.
An interesting addition is a modular feature at the bottom of the device for including add-ons. The LG G5 packs in a 5.3-inch IPS display with a Quad HD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels.
It is an ‘Always-On Display’ like the Galaxy S7 and has similar resolution, but the pixel density is a bit lower at 554 ppi.
Camera
Just as it had been speculated, the LG G5 is fitted with dual rear cameras – a 16-megapixel sensor and an 8-megapixel sensor. The higher-res snapper has 70-degree field of view, while the second delivers wider 135-degree field of view.
These can be used separately or used together for exciting combinations and real-time effect editing. LG describes this as its best camera setup to date. The offerings in the camera department are rounded off with a powerful 8-megapixel selfie snapper.
Hardware and Software
Like Galaxy S7, the LG G5 will come equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. The chip is also paired with ample 4 GB of RAM for fluid performance and high responsiveness.
Onboard storage is 32 GB, expandable by up to 2 TB using a microSD card. As would be expected, the LG G5 boots the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system for awesome user experience.
Other Features
A key selling point of the LG G5 is its modular design which allows the use of add-ons to improve user experience. These modules or add-ons are also known as Friends.
One of these – LG Cam Plus – is designed to support better image capturing capability and boost the battery capacity from 2,800mAh to about 4,000mAh. The LG Hi-Fi Plus module provides great audio with backing from Bang and Olufsen technology.
