Samsung Connect Auto is a small device that is designed to bring your car into the Internet of Things ecosystem by enabling it to be connected to the web. It is intended to facilitate safe, economic, eco-friendly and fun driving experience.
Description and Uses
The Samsung Connect Auto is a small dongle featuring a plastic body, which comes in black. It is powered by its maker’s Tizen operating system.
To tap into the potentials of the device, you simply need to plug it directly into the OBD II port, which is typically found below the steering wheel of cars manufactured after 1996.
It is connected to an app running on your smartphone via Wi-Fi. Samsung Connect Auto comes with integrated 4G LTE module which supports a Wi-Fi hotspot feature that makes internet access available to up to 10 devices within a vehicle.
The 4G LTE hotspot is not the main selling point of this dongle, though. The Connect Auto is made to help ensure responsible driving. It is able to generate a wide range of information on how well a driver is doing.
The device provides real-time alerts to enable users work on their driving behaviour. You will be able to learn about your driving efficiency with the aid of proprietary algorithms which analyse time on the road, miles travelled and price per gallon.
The information generated by Samsung Connect Auto can make it easier for drivers to get more cost-friendly insurance policies. You may choose to share the driving data gathered through a Usage-Based Insurance feature with your insurer, if you believe you are a good driver.
You can also easily locate the position of your car in real time with a ‘Find My Car’ app using 4G LTE and GPS.
Additional Information
Samsung Connect Auto will notify a driver’s contacts via emergency alerts if there is an accident. Its maker equips it with its own KNOX system for defence-grade security to guard against privacy breaches.
The dongle is accompanied by Samsung’s Software Development Kit (SDK), making it possible for developers to create third-party applications for it. You can also set up speed limit and a geo-fence with the Connect Auto and be notified if any of these is breached.
