Design

Looking at the Cubot X17 from a distance, you could easily mistake it for a higher end offering. It shows off an incredibly thin body at 6.1 millimetres (just 4.1 millimetres at its thinnest point.

The frame is made of what Cubot calls ‘zinic alloy’ – probably zinc alloy – which is said to be stronger and offer greater wear resistance than aluminium alloy.

Display

The Cubot X17 parades a 5-inch display which its maker compares to one that can be found on an Apple device.

The full lamination IPS display boasts an awesome Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels for a high pixel density of 441 ppi. This brilliant touchscreen with 2.5D glass offers amazing wide angles of up to 178 degrees.

Camera

You are likely to be impressed by what the Cubot X17 has to offer on the camera front. It comes with a 16MP main camera alongside an 8MP selfie snapper.

The primary shooter has an f/2.2 aperture, 5-element lens and dual-LED flash for awesome shot taking.

The front-facing snapper also uses an f/2.2 aperture and comes with an 88-degree wide lens for superb wide-angle selfies. Cubot X17 supports smile and gesture capture.

Hardware and Software

On the inside, the Cubot X17 is pushed along by a quad-core MediaTek MT6735A processor clocked at 1.3 GHz and paired with a Mali T-720 GPU.

The 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 CPU may not come across as spectacular, but the ample 3 GB of RAM on offer makes it more realistic to expect enjoyable performance from it.

The Cubot X17 comes with generous inbuilt storage of 16GB capacity, expandable by up to 32 GB via a microSD card slot. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system.

The X17 is equipped with a 2,500mAh Li-Ion battery and boasts lightning-fast 4G LTE support. It offers gesture sensing, enabling you interact with the device with your hand suspended in the air. The phone also supports HotKnot and OTG.
