Build and Screen
It appears the new Gionee Pioneer P5L (2016) is fashioned out of plastic and parades a glossy feel.
The new Gionee Pioneer P5L is slightly slimmer and more lightweight at 8.3 millimetres and about 147 grams respectively. The phone is not shabby, especially when looking at the front.
It sports a bigger 5-inch IPS Oncell display, compared to the 4.7-inch IPS panel on the original Pioneer P5L. The screen resolution has also been improved to HD (720p) for sharper images.
Camera and Storage
The Gionee Pioneer P5L (2016) packs an improved pair of snappers. On the rear, you will now find an 8-megapixel shooter with LED Flash, HDR and Full HD (1,080p) video recording capability.
For selfies, a more powerful 5-megapixel front-facing camera is included in the package.
The 16 GB of integrated storage this phone offers – double what the Pioneer P5L came with – should suffice for the needs of many users.

Performance and OS
Performance does not appear to have been improved on this one, judging by what is on the specs sheet.
Gionee Pioneer P5L is powered by a quad-core processor as its predecessor. This CPU is also clocked at 1.3 GHz and backed by 1 GB of RAM.
Enjoyable multitasking should still be expected from the device, especially by entry-level users.
The operating system has been upgraded to Android 5.1 Lollipop for better user experience. The OS is skinned with Gionee’s Amigo 3.1 UI.
