Chances are you have never heard of the UMi brand. In fact, I did not know of the brand until I got a request in my mail to review the UMi Plus. However, for an unknown brand Umi is sure making a statement with the UMi Plus.

The smartphone offers a premium design with specs that are often limited to high-end smartphones and all these you get at a regular price of $249.99. The Design and Display

UMi Plus comes in a metal unibody design. The body is built with 6000 series Aluminium alloy used in aerospace. It is available in Gold or Gray colours with the front of the phone covered with 2.5D glass.

UMi Plus sports a brilliant 5.5-inch IPS display with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution. The display was built by Sharp and offers a brilliant view both indoors and outdoors, making it great for watching movies.

The Cameras

UMi Plus sports a 13 megapixels 3L8 sensor from Samsung on the back. It has a 5-element lens system with ultra-fast phase detection autofocus that can get the job done in just 0.1 second. The camera also features dual-LED flash and 1080p HD video recording.

For your selfies, the UMi Plus provides a 5 megapixels camera.

Hardware and Software

UMi Plus has a very impressive hardware. It is powered by the 64-bit, Mediatek Helio P10 chipset offering eight A53 cores clocked at up to 1.8GHz. This is paired with 4GB RAM, which should make for a smooth performance for games and video streaming.

The processor is efficient and can squeeze out up to 15 hours of game time from the built-in 4000 mAh battery according to UMi. The company also boasts up to 17 hours video playback and up to 121 hours of music playback.

UMi Plus supports PE+ fast charging, which can get you about a day of use with just 30 minutes charge and fully charges in about 100 minutes. It has a USB Type C port flanked by the stereo speakers on the bottom side.

UMi Plus features a fast fingerprint sensor. It takes as little as 0.1 second to unlock your phone. The sensor is advanced with 360 degree read recognition. You can store up to five fingerprints with a dedicated chip that encrypts and keeps your prints safe.

UMi Plus comes with Pure Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) out of the box, which means timely updates for new software features and patch to security bugs. Umi Plus has Android 7.0 (Nougat) OTA update as at December 13, 2016.

The phone has 32GB built-in storage and supports 4G LTE. UMi Plus supports 4G LTE on MTN, Etisalat, NTEL, InterC, and Smile in Nigeria. It does not support LTE in the United States.

UMi Plus may endup selling on Jumia Nigeria as some of the older models from the company are currently being offered by an international third party seller. When that happens, UMi Plus price in Nigeria should range from 91,000 Naira and 120,000 Naira.
