LG G6 Specs & Price – with 18:9 aspect ratio

LG G6 is LG’s latest flagship smartphone announced at the Mobile World Congress in 2017. It is a successor to the LG G5, but drops its most talked about modular design. LG G6 offers a 5.7-inch display with a new 18:9 aspect ratio.

The Design

The G5 made a lot of buzz with its modular design, however the phone lost the battle with other flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the iPhone 7. This is probably why LG is scrapping the modular design for a more traditional and successful block design in the LG G6.

LG G6 features a glass and metal design with glass covering for the front and back. While the front is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, the rear is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

Unlike phones like the iPhone 7, the LG G6 has 3.5mm audio jack. The phone despite having a bigger screen features a more compact design than the G5. This is in part as a result of the slimmer bezels of the LG G6 and its new aspect ratio.

The Display and Camera

LG G6 has a 5.7-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1440 x 2880 pixels. The Always-on display comes with a brand new 18:9 aspect ratio, which should offer a better viewing experience. The new aspect ratio also allows for a bigger screen in a smaller package.

LG G6 offers an improved camera. The phone has a dual-camera setup with two 13 megapixel cameras on the back. The setup consist of a wide-angle 13 megapixels camera and another 13 megapixels camera with Optical Image Stabilisation.

The rear camera also supports autofocus, laser autofocus, LED flash, HDR, and Face Detection. You can also record up to 2160p 4K videos on the rear camera. LG G6 offers a 5 megapixels front facing camera for taking selfies and making voice calls.

Hardware and Software

LG G6 is powered by the Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 821 chipset with 4GB RAM. The chipset offers two dual-core Kryo processors clocked at 2.35GHz and 1.6GHz respectively. LG G6 runs on Android 7.0 (Nougat) with LG’s latest UI built (LG UX 6.0) to take advantage of the new 18:9 aspect ratio.

LG G6 offers 32GB or 64GB of internal storage and supports up to 256GB memory card. The Android phone is available in single and dual-SIM variants with the single SIM model offering a dedicated slot for the memory card and the dual-SIM models with a hybrid SIM slot that also doubles as a memory card slot.

LG G6 supports USB Type C port (with USB 3.1), NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, and dual-band Wi-Fi. The smarphone sports a 3300 mAh non-removable battery with fast charging. You may also get wireless charging depending on your country.

LG G6 offers 4G LTE with download speeds of up to 600 Mbps. The smartphone is expected to support LTE on MTN, Etisalat, NTel, Smile, and InterC.

Pricing and availability

LG G6 is expected to launch in South Korea on March 5 and the United States and Europe shortly after. We currently have no data on pricing and availability for Nigeria, Ghana, or Kenya. When available, LG G6 Price in Nigeria is expected to range from 180,000 Naira to 200,000 Naira depending on your location in the country.
