Hydrogen One by Red is an upcoming smartphone that is unlike what you have probably seen before. The device dubbed the ‘world’s first holographic media machine’ appears to be targeted at professional users. Here is the much that is known about it at this time.
Build and Design
The prototype made available shows a device featuring robust construction. Its rear appears to show a mixture of metal and Kevlar.
Hydrogen One also has modular accessory system at the back to allow you add more powerful cameras and other accessories. The standard variant of the device will sport aluminium while the more premium offering will use titanium. Lining the edge of the display are speaker grilles.
Display and Camera
The display on the Hydrogen One will measure 5.7 inches diagonally. No information on resolution. While this is a large screen, the size of the phone means you have thick bezels on this one. You will be able to view 3D, VR, AR and MR content with it.
Buyers will get a dual-lens shooter on this beast. It looks like this will be available as a snap-on accessory. Red is a professional camera company, so you can expect this one to serve up super shots.
Miscellaneous Features
The operating system is said to have a proprietary algorithm integrated. This reportedly tunes stereo sound into multi-dimensional audio that seems to come at you from all sides. Red describes this as 5.1 sound in your headphones.
Hydrogen One will run on Android operating system – the exact version is not yet known. It will run on multiple network bands, but it is not clear if it supports 4G LTE. There is a USB Type-C connector, for which you get a cable and charger in the package. You will also find a microSD card slot for storage expansion.
The behemoth is obviously made for content creation. Its maker says you will be able shoot high quality motion and still pictures. The Hydrogen One is able to convert 3D content into .h4v format and you can create .h4v content from scratch.
The Aluminium model of the Hydrogen One is expected at $1195, while the Titanium model is expected at $1595. Hydrogen One is expected to start shipping in the first quarter of 2018, though you should order now if you want to get the first production batch.
