Doogee Y8 Specs and Price

Doogee is a Chinese brand that offers very affordable products something the Chinese smartphone makers are known for. However, it represents well with the Doogee Y8 entry-level smartphone which is crafted stylishly in a way that adds more value to it. It features a water drop notch which is something you don’t see often at this price point and adds a dual camera at the rear. However, don’t get fooled by the whole charade, the smartphone is as budget as they come.

Design and Display

The Doogee Y8 is crafted to look more premium than it actually is, although, it still comes with a plastic body just like the rest of the similarly priced smartphones. This smartphone comes with a 19:9 aspect ratio, slim bezels and a notch on top of the display. There is Doogee written on the well sized bezel at the bottom of the screen and also at the back just below the fingerprint sensor. Different colours of the smartphone are available, there is midnight black, phantom purple and emerald green finish to choose from.

The display does look good from afar before it lights up and is betrayed by the lack of detail and punchy colours. There is the water drop notch that gives it a nudge aesthetically and the absence of chunky bezels too helps the 6.1-inch display look good. As a low budget smartphone, it has a 1280 x 600 pixels resolution which is good enough to work with.

Battery and Camera

In the battery segment, the smartphone really comes with enough juice to keep your smartphone on al day. The 3, 400mAh is not exactly a big deal but it is ample capacity for the day’s work and handles all the web surfing, watching movies and all well. However, you can still eat through this before the end of the day if usage is heavy. It has a Micro USB port at the bottom for charging and is nowhere near a fast charge feature.

Entering the camera chapter of the smartphone, the sensors on board is manageable for your pictures since the whole entry-level category is not quite equipped to dish out good looking pictures anyway. The back of the smartphone has an 8MP camera as well as a 5MP camera working in tandem. In the water drop notch, there is a 5MP camera tending to selfies.

Hardware and Software

We all know what to expect here. At the price you’re paying, the MediaTek MT6739 four core processor is in no way out of the scope. Also you’ve got a PowerVR GE8100 GPU  doing measly graphics processing and a 3GB RAM to ease multitasking. The Doogee Y8  has a 16GB storage space with an SD card support up to 256GB. And there is the latest Android Pie on it which means updated security.
