Since OPPO made a foray into the Nigerian market in 2019, there has been an influx of quality smartphones to the Nigerian smartphone market. OPPO has launched a couple of quality devices since then, OPPO A92 is another one which brings a lot of value for the price it goes for.

The A92 sits between the Reno series in terms of power and the A-series in terms affordability making it the smartphone of choice for young, internet-savvy Nigerians who needs a powerful device capable of delivering their daily needs.

I have had the pleasure of having the OPPO A92 with me for a couple of weeks and I will be sharing my thoughts concerning the device.

OPPO A92 Design

One thing that stands out immediately when you see this smartphone is its design and stunning colour theme. The phone is very light and has curved edges which OPPO calls 3D quad curve design.

It weighs 192g in size and 8.9mm in thickness which all-together contributes to a firm grip when held.

OPPO A92 is available in two colours – Aurora Purple and Twilight Black. Both feature a constellation colour scheme for the first time on any OPPO smartphone but the Aurora Purple looks the most stunning. When the smartphone is titled or dangled, the colour changes giving out a beamer of lights representing a polar sky.

By the side is a fingerprint scanner which also serves as the power button and the wake-up button. The fingerprint scanner works very well but the Face ID provides a faster unlocking system. Before you direct your finger to the side of the device, the Face ID unlock would have worked in less than 1s.

At the back is also a C-shaped layout which houses the quad-camera setup and LED light.

OPPO A92 Display

In terms of display, OPPO A92 comes with a large 6.5” FHD+ display with a 1080P resolution and a 20:9 aspect ratio. Thanks to its Neo-Display tech, the display is crisp enough and doesn’t consume a lot of battery.

In terms of brightness, you it could go as bright as 480 nits which is good enough to see your screen even in bright sunlight. In terms of the screen’s refresh rate, you get the standard 60Hz which is more than enough to give you a smooth transition for whatever task you are preforming.

To reduce constraint on the eye at night, the device comes with an Eye Care mode which you can toggle on. The brightness is adapted in such in a way that it doesn’t affect the eyes.

The Modes

In front of the display is a punch-hole cutout at the top which houses the 16MP F2.0 aperture selfie camera. The camera is used for the Face ID unlock.

OPPO A92 Hardware and Performance

The OPPO A92 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665 chipset, it comes with an 8G RAM size and a 128GB internal memory. In terms of CPU performance, the benchmark score of the OPPO A92 is very decent. When tested at Geekbench, the single-core scores 309, while the multi-core gets 1,361.

In terms of performance you are getting a device which performs very well and comes between the powerful Reno3 Pro and the A9 2020.

In terms of graphics, this smartphone is powered by Adreno 610 by Qualcomm which is a graphic card for mid-range smartphones.

I put the graphics card to intense test on 3D Mark, there were lags when you begin to run high-intensive graphics at a high FPS. But not to worry, you won’t be running your current games at such a high frame rate because games like Call of Duty Mobile and PUBG runs smoothly on the OPPO A92.

Looking at the software, this device ships Android 10 out of the box based on OPPO’S ColorOS 7.1.

The ColorOS 7.1 UI is intuitive and easy to use. You can easily change how your icons display and how the app drawer comes up when you go to the Settings.

There are modes like Dark Mode and Smart Driving which takes you in different driving modes and limits some of the smartphone’s feature so you don’t get distracted and get an accident.

OPPO A92 Camera

From the design of the phone, you know it’s a camera-centric one. The device is equipped with four cameras in a C-shaped cutout at the back.

The camera is made up of a 48MP main shooter which has an ½” sensor and f/1.7 aperture; an 8MP ultra-wide angle lens which has a ¼” sensor and a 119.1 degree field of view; 2MP portrait lens which has a 1/5” sensor; and a 2MP mono lens with 1/5” sensor.

It comes with an LED Flash and comes with features like HDR and Panorama. For videos, it shoots 4K videos at 30fps, 1080p at 30/120fps and it comes with gyro-EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) to for video stability

For selfies, the punch-hole cutout houses 16MP front camera which comes with an f/2.0 aperture. It features AI Beautification, HDR and it shoots 1080p videos at 30fps.

OPPO A92 Battery Life

OPPO A92 has a 5,000 mAh battery and it is powered through a USB-C port, which supports 18W Fast Charge. The battery takes like two hours to charge fully from 0-100% but it lasts very long before you exhaust it again.

In two days, I haven’t charged the smartphone and I still have enough power while browsing the Internet on Wi-Fi and doing basic activities.

The A92 is available for (8GB+128GB) – N109,900 at accredited dealership and e-commerce platforms nationwide.

Visit www.oppo.com/ng for more information.

All-in-all, this is a good smartphone to own. The front camera gets the job done but the rear camera is more effective, this is one of the good camera phones in the Nigerian market right now.
