Design and Display
The fact that we are gradually becoming accustomed to seeing flagship smartphones with screen sizes well above 6.5 inches, doesn’t abolish the need for compact flagship smartphones. Apple understands this and as such made moves to place the iPhone 12 Mini in a sweet spot.
Describing the extent Apple went, the iPhone 12 Mini bears the same footprint as the iPhone SE 2020, only with a bigger display at 5.4-inches, as opposed to the 4.7-inch display on the iPhone SE. Apple was able to achieve a bigger display with the same footprint, by opting for slimmer bezels around the display.
This display is based on a Super Retina XDR OLED panel just like the iPhone 12, however, we have got a different resolution and density, which are 1080 x 2340 and 476 PPI respectively.
The iPhone 12 Mini’s display also rocks the all-new Ceramic Shield designed by apple to increase the fidelity of the display. It promises 4x more protection in comparison with iPhones from previous generations. It is basically a layered ceramic inside the glass layer of the display.
Still speaking on protection, Apple didn’t spare water and dust here, as the 12 Mini is rated for IP68 water and dust resistance, which promises Apple fans damage protection provided if the device is submerged in up to 6m up to 30mins.
Aside from the difference in display properties, the iPhone 12 Mini pretty much bears the same design as the iPhone twelve. The chassis design and build are pretty much the same.
This resemblance in design means users will also be served with the same flat edges that allow the aluminum and glass frame to stay flushed.
