Design
At first glance, the HP EliteBook x360 1040 G7 looks like the regular Elitebook laptop with aluminum and magnesium chassis, however, it is thinner, smaller and lighter than its predecessor. The all-silver chassis is strong, and rugged enough to withstand spill, drop and everyday damages.
It measures an overall dimension of 31.93 x 20.26 x 1.66 cm and weighs 1.32 kg, hence, it is ultra-portable and can easily be slipped inside a bag.
HP recently ditched the notched lid for an improved angled one. It is indented with a chamfered design. This makes it super easy to open the laptop using one hand, or just a finger.
The laptop has a gem-cut edges and flat sides. In fact, the back corners are also flat to perfect the laptop slim outlook.
When opened, the lid host a 14-inches screen with slimmer bezels on the top, sides and bottom. It has an an 89-percent screen-to-body ratio. The top bezel house a 720p HD camera for IR face recognition system and the bottom host the company logo.
This HP laptop is convertible built with a 360° hinge, which allows you to access four different setup modes from laptop to tent, stand or tablet mode, thus, making it efficient for all working environment.
The hinge hold the lid to the base chassis which host the keyboard, touchpad, multiple port and other important components.
In addition, the HP EliteBook x360 1040 G7 has two speakers on the top deck and two more at the bottom.
HP EliteBook x360 1040 G7 also comes with multiple ports for connectivity including a USB-A port on both sides, as well as two USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports (which are also used for charging) and HDMI on the right side. There’s also a SIM port on the left side for use with the optional LTE cellular modem. However, the laptop lacks a microSD card slot.
Keyboard / Touchpad
The HP EliteBook x360 1040 G7 keyboard has been redesigned to include a few new buttons on the function key row at the top. This includes an electronic switch that closes a shutter behind the webcam, which HP calls “Sure Shutter.” There is also a key that you can set to launch a website, application, or open a specific file, and a power key.
The full sized spill-resistant backlit keyboard, thus, leaving a narrower bottom “chin” bezel than its predecessor. It also has a long key travel all thanks to the small key which allows for enough room to space the keys, so as to give a very good typing experience. There is also a fingerprint reader faux button on the keyboard between the alt and control key.
Below the keyboard is a smooth, large glass precision touchpad. It uses Microsoft Precision drivers, hence, it does not rattle, and has a satisfying click.
Display
The HP EliteBook x360 1040 has a 14-inch screen, featuring a Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution with multi-touch functionality and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It is also available with a UHD (3840-by2160) display or an FHD SureView Reflect privacy screen.
The FHD IPS SureView Reflect model has up to 1000 nits of brightness, while the base model without the SureView feature offers up to 400 nits. The premium model with 4K OLED UHD display has up to 550 nits with HDR400 technology.
Furthermore, HP EliteBook x360 1040 G7 colour accuracy measurements, sRGB was 99 percent, with AdobeRGB at 76 percent, and DCI-P3 at 78 percent.
Above all, the laptop has 16:9 aspect ratio displays with a refresh rate of 60 Hz and excellent viewing angles.

The base configuration offers an Intel Core i5-10210U processor clocking at 1.6 GHz – 4.2 GHz with Turbo Boost and has 6 MB cache with 4 core. There is also a Core i5-10310U vPro CPU that clocks at 1.7 GHz base and 4.4 GHz turbo boost with the same core and thread as the first model.
