Design
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga (Gen 5) combines business-class style and durability to achieve the premium design. Although, the ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 5 is otherwise identical to its predecessor, it has a few styling changes.
The company shifted the X1 Yoga from carbon to aluminum. This effort results into the sleek, slim classically-styled ultra-portable laptop. Compare to its predecessor, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga (Gen 5) measures a dimension of 323mm x 218mm x 15.2mm and weigh 1.35kg, hence, it is lighter.
In addition, this laptop lid has some slight changes that differentiate it from its predecessor. It has a large X1 sticker stamped beneath the “ThinkPad” logo on the lid, which gives the notebook a more consumer-friendly look.
When opened, the lid host the 14-inch display which has thin bezels surrounding it. Although, the bottom bezel is chunky, and the top bezel is also thick enough to host the 720p IR camera with a privacy shutter to keep intruder out.
Like any Yoga series Laptop, ThinkPad X1 Yoga (Gen 5) has 360-degree hinge that allows you to use it in laptop mode, fold it down into a tablet, or prop the display up in either stand or tent modes.
The base chassis also has a smooth matte aluminum surfaces that hide fingerprints well. It also hosts a backlit keyboard with large, curved keycaps made of the same material as the body. They have decent travel distance considering how thin the laptop is, and a large armrest to accommodate the small and large hands alike.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga (Gen 5) also has a 4.1 x 2.6-inch touchpad with a fingerprint sensor for security purpose.
The company also moved the power button to the right hand side of the laptop, alongside a stylus pen, a USB-A 3.1 (Gen 1) and a Kensington lock slot.
