Design
At first glance, DJI Mini 2 looks identical to Mavic Mini with its compact and lightweight design. The incredibly small body and weight makes it easy to fly higher than most drone with the same price range. DJI Mini 2 is made of light Magnesium-Aluminium alloy with foldable arms which makes it easy to stuff in a backpack.
When folded, it measure a dimension of 138 × 81 × 58 mm, and 245 × 289 × 56 mm when unfolded with the quick release propellers fixed. It also weighs 249 g.
On the front of the Mini 2 is the three-axis stabilized camera, that is shielded by a camera guard. When flipped upside, there is a microSD card slot, as well as a USB-C port and battery spot. There are also different sensors on the drone including collision sensors above the camera, an altitude sensor and optical sensors at the back.
Photo and video quality
DJI Mini 2 comes with a 12MP camera and 1/2.3” CMOS with f/2.8 sensor and a 24mm EFL with an 83º FOV, and an ISO range of 100-3200 to deliver creative pro-quality shots. This allows you to record in resolutions up to 4K/30p, 2.7K/30p, and 1080p/60p at 100 Mbps. You can also zoom in on subjects while recording. Both 4K and 2.7K allow up to 2X zooming, and 1080p resolution allows you to hone in on a subject up to 4X, though the quality only remains lossless at 2X zoom.
This camera comes with five QuickShot modes to track a subject (Circle, Boomerang, Dronie, Helix, and Rocket), and three panorama options (traditional, 180-degree and 360-degree) in which the drone will take nine pictures and stitch them together to create a detailed image. With the 3-axis gimbal this drone can capture stable and smooth footage in any flight situation. Mini 2 is also able to take photos in JPG and RAW.
Performance
DJI Mini 2 uses the Occusync 2.0 transmission technology, rather than Wi-Fi. This technology allows DJI Mini 2 to adjust automatically between two frequencies, which extends Mini 2’s max transmission distance to 10 km for even more flexibility.
Furthermore, DJI has changed the motors to offer a maximum flight speed of 16 meters per second. It can also resist level 5 winds and take off at a max altitude of 4,000 meters, so your footage is stable even when flying along a windy coastline or high above an alpine forest.
This drone also include a geofence system that prevents you from taking off in restricted airspaces. It allows you to set your drone to be within a certain radius of the remote.
The DJI Mini 2 also comes with an improved global positioning (GPS/GLONASS/Galileo), altitude sensor and the three downward-facing distance with an optical sensors which means the drone has nearly-flawless perception of its positioning and can hover as well as much more expensive alternatives.
Above all, this drone comes with a 3-cell 2250mAh Li-Po battery that can support up to 31 minutes of flight time.
Flight Modes
DJI Mini 2 drone have multiple intelligent capabilities and features to make it easier, such as automatic takeoff, precise hovering, and a smart return-to-home function that uses GPS to return the drone safely back to its takeoff point. It also comes with different impressive flight modes including Circle, Boomerang, Dronie, Helix, and Rocket.
Circle Mode
This mode allows you to capture smooth, circling video footage of a point of interest of your choosing. The drone rotates around a subject while steadily gaining elevation. As the drone revolves around the subject, you can gradually reveal the scene to your audience.
Dronie Flight Modes
This mode is kind of like the ultimate selfie. Once in the mode, you can use your hands to create a frame in front of your face which will start a three-second count-down then take a picture.
Boomerang Mode
In this mode, the aircraft flies around the subject in an oval path, ascending as it flies away from its starting point and descending as it flies back. The drone’s starting point forms one end of the oval’s long axis, while the other end of its long axis is at the opposite side of the subject from the starting point.
Helix Mode
The Helix mode combines other flight modes into one impressive movement. It can viewed as an upgraded Dronie. It start recording from close to yourself, and back away from you, slowly rising upward, only to begin to circle you to capture the best detail around
Rocket
This is absolutely the easiest mode to perform manually. In this mode, the drone simply flies straight up from a relatively low hover with the camera facing straight down so as to capture and offer a view of an environment, slowly revealing the area around the subject.
QuickShot
This autopilot flight modes that take a 10-second video of a subject that can be viewed, edited, or shared to social media from the playback menu. You can export QuickShots as plain video or as enhanced clips. To use Quickshot your drone needs to be at least 1.5 m above the ground, then select QuickShot and follow the prompts.
DJI Fly app
The DJI Fly app has had some useful improvements, although it is a streamlined version of the DJI’s GO 4 app, it offers a good balance of simplicity and control for beginners.
On the left-hand side, above the shutter button, is a rectangular photo icon which gives access to the menu for easy access of feature. DJI Fly app also have the feature that lets you plan out your itinerary in advance.

Remote Controller
The DJI Mini 2 drone controller have an identical design to the Mavic Air 2 controller. It allows you to mount a smartphone above the control sticks instead of below for improved visibility. This makes the controller much more comfortable and easier to use.
It has a switch button at the center that allows you to navigate between three flight modes Cine, Normal and Sport. The Cine mode slows the drone down to 13 mph for cinematic-type footage, while the Normal mode slows down to 22 mph, and lastly the Sport mode lets you fly up to 36 mph.
Furthermore, beside the flight mode switch on the right is the power button and on the left is the one key takeoff / landing.
At the top-left-hand corner of the controller is the ‘Fn’ button that activates an auxiliary light that’s useful for visibility when landing in poorly lit scenarios. On the upper-right-hand side is the ‘Photo/Video toggle’ button that allows you to instantly switch back and forth between the two modes.
There is also a gimbal wheel on the top-left-hand corner that allows you to tilt the camera up and down while the top-right-hand corner contains a shutter button for taking images or recording video clips.
