Design and Display
The Samsung Galaxy M14 4G share a similar look as the Galaxy A05s and last year’s Samsung Galaxy M14 5G. It has a sleek and flat design that looks plain but also recognizable enough. The body is made of a glass screen and plastic rear with a matte finish.
At first glance, the Galaxy M14 4G has Samsung’s triple camera cutout design on the rear. These triple vertically arranged camera on the back adds a touch of elegance but simplicity to the overall design of the phone. The cameras are accompanied by a LED flash to the right, and the Samsung branding at the lower edge of the rear panel.
On the front, the device boasts a dominating 6.7-inch LCD display, offering an immersive viewing experience. This display panel has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, delivering a pixel density of 394 pixels per inch (ppi), hence, users can expect crisp detail and vibrant colors.
Additionally, it has an impressive 90Hz refresh rate that ensures smooth transitions and fluid motion, thus enhancing the overall display performance. The display’s 20:9 aspect ratio further contributes to an expansive screen real estate, perfect for enjoying multimedia content, browsing, and gaming with enhanced clarity and immersion.
For functionality, the Samsung Galaxy M14 4G integrates its controls and features thoughtfully. The right-hand side of the phone houses the volume rocker and power button, which conveniently doubles as a fingerprint reader for quick and secure access. On the left side, users can find the SIM tray accommodating nano-SIM slots, along with a dedicated microSD slot for expandable storage options.
At the bottom, a singular bottom-firing speaker, main microphone, and the USB Type-C port are neatly housed within the device, offering clear audio output and convenient charging and data transfer capabilities. Meanwhile, the top of the phone is equipped with a secondary noise-canceling microphone, enhancing call quality by reducing background noise for crystal-clear communication.
Above all, the Samsung Galaxy M14 4G features a sleek and compact design, measuring just 9mm in thickness and weighing 194g. It is available in Arctic Blue, and Sapphire Blue.
Camera
As discussed earlier, the Samsung Galaxy M14 4G offers a versatile triple-camera setup for capturing stunning photos and videos. The primary rear camera boasts an impressive 50 MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, featuring PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus) for swift and accurate focusing. Furthermore, the photo-capturing UI has a 2x zoom toggle.
The main camera has enough resolution to accommodate digital zooming and cropping. These photos look pretty decent and very close to their 1x counterparts. The details are about the same, and so are the colors. Noise and dynamic range are still sore points.
Accompanying this, there’s a 2 MP macro lens with an f/2.4 aperture for detailed close-up shots, as well as a 2 MP depth sensor with the same f/2.4 aperture, ideal for adding depth to portrait shots.
Additional camera features include LED flash for low-light scenarios, panorama mode for capturing wide landscapes, and HDR (High Dynamic Range) for balanced exposure in varying lighting conditions. The rear camera can record videos in 1080p resolution at either 30 or 60 frames per second, ensuring smooth and high-quality video footage.
For selfie enthusiasts, the Samsung Galaxy M14 4G is equipped with a 13 MP front-facing camera featuring an f/2.0 aperture and a wide-angle lens, enabling users to capture clear and vibrant self-portraits. The selfie camera also supports 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second, allowing for high-definition video calls and self-recorded videos.
Hardware and Software
The Samsung Galaxy M14 4G is powered by the Qualcomm SM6225 Snapdragon 680 4G chipset, built on a 6nm process for efficient performance. Its octa-core CPU comprises four high-performance Kryo 265 Gold cores clocked at 2.4 GHz and four power-efficient Kryo 265 Silver cores clocked at 1.9 GHz, ensuring smooth multitasking and responsiveness. The device is equipped with an Adreno 610 GPU, delivering decent graphical performance for gaming and multimedia tasks.
Out of the box, the Galaxy M14 runs on Android 13, with the option to upgrade to OneUI 6. While it features the more toned-down ‘Core’ version of OneUI, which lacks certain advanced features like the secure folder and edge panel, it still provides a user-friendly experience.
However, some users may find the software experience somewhat sluggish, possibly due to the heavier Android skin. Despite this, the absence of ads, minimal bloatware, and decent support (2 years OS updates, 4 years security updates) make it a reasonable offering for a budget smartphone.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy M14 comes in two RAM variants: 6GB and 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM, offering users flexibility based on their performance needs. Both variants feature fixed onboard storage of 128GB, ensuring ample space for storing apps, photos, videos, and other media. Additionally, users can also expand storage further via a microSD card slot, providing additional room for their growing digital content.
However, it’s worth noting that despite the generous storage capacity, the use of eMMC 5.1 storage chips instead of faster UFS storage may impact overall system performance and fluidity.
While eMMC storage is sufficient for basic tasks, it may result in slower read and write speeds compared to UFS storage, potentially leading to longer loading times and delays in app responsiveness. Nonetheless, considering the budget-friendly nature of the device, this compromise may be acceptable for users prioritizing affordability over top-tier performance.
To back up the phone, there is a high-capacity Li-Ion 5000 mAh battery, ensuring long-lasting power to keep up with your day-to-day activities without frequent recharging. This battery supports 25W wired charging, allowing users to recharge the battery when needed quickly.
Above all, this phone has different connectivity features including WLAN for seamless Wi-Fi networking, Bluetooth for effortless pairing with compatible devices, and GPS for accurate positioning and navigation services. There is also the USB Type-C 2.0 port, that allows users to enjoy fast data transfer and charging capabilities, ensuring quick and convenient connectivity to a wide range of accessories and peripherals.
