Design

At first glance, the exterior design of the ROG Phone 9 FE stays mostly unchanged. Much like its flagship siblings, it features a rugged design built to withstand harsh environments. The device measures 163.8 x 76.8 x 8.9 mm and weighs 225g. The dimensions are identical to those of the ROG Phone 9 and ROG Phone 9 Pro, but the FE is 2g lighter.

ASUS ROG Phone 9 FE

The back of the ASUS ROG Phone 9 FE is where the design really stands out. The phone has a familiar ROG-style design and features an AniMe mini-LED 85 programmable matrix on the back that can display specific animations.

This gives the Android phone a clean, minimalistic look when the LEDs are off, but it can light up in different colors to display notifications, phone status, or even custom animations. The inclusion of these LEDs adds a distinct, customizable touch, though it’s not quite as flashy as some competitors.

The ASUS phone features glass on both the front and back, with an aluminum frame, making it slippery and prone to fingerprint smudges. Therefore, using a case is recommended to improve grip and reduce smudging.

On the front, ASUS ROG Phone 9 FE has an almost bezel-less notch around the 6.78-inch large screen. Meanwhile, on the rear, the 5G phone has the familiar camera module and the signature ROG logo on the back. The camera module is positioned at the top left corner of the rear panel, housing the triple rear camera and LED flash accompanying it.

This device also features AirTrigger controls on the right side which provide additional control options for gamers, enhancing the gaming experience by giving you shoulder buttons, similar to what you’d find on a handheld console. It also includes an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, matching the durability of the flagship models.

Display

The Asus ROG Phone 9 FE is equipped with a 6.78-inch Full-HD+ Samsung Flexible LTPO AMOLED display, offering a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels for crisp, vibrant visuals. This display supports an impressive 165Hz refresh rate, delivering smooth, fluid motion, especially in fast-paced gaming. However, in Game Genie mode, the refresh rate can be boosted to an even higher 185Hz, optimizing performance during gaming sessions.

Additionally, it has a peak brightness of 2,500 nits, with 1,600 nits of High Brightness Mode (HBM), ensuring excellent visibility in bright environments. The screen also supports HDR, enhancing color accuracy and contrast for a more immersive viewing experience.

Furthermore, color accuracy is a standout, with the display covering 107.37% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, 145.65% of sRGB, and 103.16% of NTSC, offering vibrant, true-to-life colors for both content consumption and gaming. This makes the display not only smooth and bright but also highly color-accurate

For added durability, the display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, providing resistance to scratches and drops. The phone also features an Always-On display, allowing essential information to be visible at all times without fully waking up the device. Additionally, it includes a Glove mode, ensuring that the touchscreen remains responsive even when using the phone while wearing gloves.

Camera

The Asus ROG Phone 9 FE offers a powerful camera setup, with the 50MP primary lens being one of the standout features. While the overall camera setup remains similar to the ROG Phone 9, the main difference lies in the primary lens.

The ROG Phone 9 features a Sony LYTIA-700 sensor, whereas the ROG Phone 9 FE is equipped with a Sony IMX890 sensor. Both sensors deliver excellent photo quality, but the IMX890 offers enhanced performance, particularly in terms of color accuracy and low-light capability.

The rear camera setup includes the 50MP primary lens with a 1/1.56″ Sony IMX890 sensor, f/1.9 aperture, and 6-axis Gimbal stabilization, which ensures stable and blur-free shots, even in low-light or fast-moving scenes.

Meanwhile, supporting the main camera is the 13MP ultrawide lens, with a 120° field-of-view, which allows for expansive shots, capturing more of the scene in a single frame. There’s also a 5MP macro lens for close-up photography, enabling you to capture intricate details in subjects as close as a few centimeters.

However, the ROG Phone 9 FE lacks the telephoto camera found in the ROG Phone 9 lineup, which may be a downside for users seeking zoom capabilities. Despite this, the ROG Phone 9 FE offers impressive photo and video options, including 8K video at 30fps, 4K at 30/60/120fps, and 1080p at 30/60/120/240fps, all supported by gyro-EIS and HDR10+ for excellent dynamic range and stability.

For selfies, the 32MP front camera ensures crisp and vibrant shots, while also supporting 1080p video at 30fps. Overall, the ROG Phone 9 FE provides a comprehensive camera system that meets the needs of most users, though the absence of a telephoto lens may limit those who prioritize zoom functionality.

Hardware and Software

Under the hood, this powerhouse is driven by the Qualcomm SM8650-AB Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, built on a cutting-edge 4nm process. The processing power is nothing short of exceptional, with an octa-core CPU that’s built to handle anything you throw at it.

It features a 3.3 GHz Cortex-X4 core for peak performance, complemented by 3.2 GHz tri-core Cortex-A720 cores, and additional Cortex-A720 and Cortex-A520 cores for efficient multitasking and energy savings. Whether you’re diving into a demanding game or juggling multiple apps, this chipset ensures smooth and lag-free performance.

The Adreno 750 GPU takes gaming visuals to the next level, delivering stunning, buttery-smooth graphics that make every frame look vibrant and immersive, whether you’re playing fast-paced action games or watching 4K content.

In terms of memory, the ASUS ROG Phone 9 FE doesn’t hold back. It comes with a whopping 16GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, giving you enough space to store all your games, apps, videos, and photos, with room to spare.

The UFS 4.0 storage ensures lightning-fast read and write speeds, making app launches, file transfers, and even game load times feel instantaneous. However, you won’t find a microSD slot, but it does support NTFS for external storage, so you have some flexibility if you need more space.

The Asus ROG Phone 9 FE runs on the latest Android 15, giving you a refined and feature-packed experience. It also promises up to two major Android upgrades, ensuring your device stays fresh and up-to-date with all the latest innovations and security patches.

Furthermore, the ROG Phone 9 FE is backed up by a 5,500mAh battery which ensures you won’t run out of juice in the middle of a gaming session or long day. And when you do need to charge, the 65W HyperCharge fast charging will have you powered up in no time.

In addition, it supports Quick Charge 5.0 and PD Charging, so you’re always ready to go, no matter how fast-paced your life gets. If you prefer to go wireless, the 15W Qi wireless charging option is there for added convenience.

Connectivity is another area where the ROG Phone 9 FE shines. With Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be), and Bluetooth 5.4, it delivers an ultra-reliable and speedy connection, whether you’re gaming online, streaming media, or connecting to wireless devices. It also offers a wide range of satellite navigation systems, including GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo, QZSS, and NavIC, ensuring that you’ll never lose your way, no matter where you are in the world.

For those who appreciate fast data transfers, the USB Type-C port offers both convenience and high-speed connections. And if you’re into seamless pairing and tap-to-pay, NFC has you covered. This Gaming phone is loaded with all the features you’d expect from a top-tier device, making it not just a phone, but a true powerhouse designed to elevate your mobile experience.

The Asus ROG Phone 9 FE is truly engineered for performance, providing you with every tool you need to stay ahead, whether you’re a gamer, creator, or just someone who demands the best.
