Design and Display
The Huawei P40 4G’s design is no different from what we have on the standard P40 5G. Huawei basically did a copy and paste operation, which in my opinion isn’t a bad idea. This design has a lot of positives around it and that’s a good thing.
Before we jump to discuss the chassis placements, do note that the chassis build comprises Gorilla Glass on the rear, gorilla glass up front, and aluminum on the frame.
On the rear, we have a square camera module containing four cameras and an LED flash. Also on the rear is the Huawei branding, which indicates it’s a Huawei smartphone.
Enthusiasts who decide to purchase the Huawei P40 4G will have two colour options which include Frost Silver and Dark Blue, which are two colours short of the colours on the standard P40.
Moving upfront we have a dual-camera cut-out residing on a 6.1-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340, a density of 442 PPI.
The Cameras
Being a 4G only variant certainly doesn’t water down the Huawei P40 4G capabilities. As a matter of fact, it bears the same set of cameras as the standard P40. Here we have a triple camera setup on the rear and a dual-camera setup upfront.
The quad-camera setup on the rear features a 50MP primary camera with an aperture of f/1.9, an 8MP telephoto camera with an aperture of f/2.4, and a 16MP ultrawide camera with an aperture of f/2.2. This camera is capable of shooting videos up to 4k @ 60fps.m
On the selfie side, we have a 32MP primary camera with an aperture of f/2.0 and a TOF 3D sensor.
Hardware and Software
Enthusiasts will be offered basically similar performance as on the standard P40. The difference here is in the processor, the former supports 5G, while the latter doesn’t support 5G.
On the performance train, we have an Octa-core Kirin 990 processor with a 7nm+ process, a Mali-G76 MP16 GPU, 8GB RAM, 128GB Internal storage, and a non-removable 3800mAh battery. Enthusiats will also have the luxury of a 22.5W fast charge mechanism.
On the software side, the Huawei P40 4G runs EMUI on top of the Android 10 operating system. However, please note that due to US-Sanctions, enthusiasts won’t get access to Google services on this device.
