Design

The ZTE Nubia Red Magic 8S Pro is a smartphone that combines a sleek and elegant design with powerful gaming capabilities. It features squared and minimal lines, with symmetrical sides and a satin and elegant back cover, which is quite unusual for a gaming phone.

The aluminum frame gives the phone a more traditional Android phone appearance, rather than a typical gaming device. The matte surface on the back adds grip to the phone, making it easier to hold during gaming sessions.

The ZTE Nubia Red Magic 8S Pro strikes a balance between sturdy construction and comfortable handling, weighing 228g and measuring 8.9mm in thickness. It also retains the gaming phone aesthetic with customizable RGB zones on the back panel, which can be adjusted to 16.8 million colors and 4096 adjustable brightness. Additionally, there are LED indicators on the back that can act as notification indicators.

In daylight conditions, photos taken with the primary camera showed accurate colors and recognizable objects. However, zooming in revealed some grain in the output. The ultra-wide-angle camera captured a wider field of view but resulted in distorted edges and less detailed photos compared to the primary camera.

Furthermore, when shooting close-ups, the ZTE Nubia Red Magic 8S Pro locked focus quickly, producing sharp and well-separated subject shots with added depth effect for the background. The macro camera also allowed for close-up shots with decent results.

On the front, selfies taken with the 16-megapixel front camera were crisp with good edge detection in portrait mode. It captures attractive self-portraits even in low light condition.

Video recording capabilities included 8K resolution for the primary camera and 1080p for the front camera. While video stabilization was done electronically, the footage was generally stable in 1080p during daylight conditions. However, there was a shimmer effect when walking around while recording 4K video, and low-light video recording showed a similar shimmer effect.
