A powerful platform
Motorola Xoom is built for super-fast performance. The specs do not hide this at all. Motorola Xoom features a dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 possessor, the first tablet computer to feature a dual-core processor. It also has a dedicated 3D graphics accelerator. Motorola Xoom tablet features 1GB RAM, which will speedup performance and make it great in multitasking.
All these hardware will not do much good without an equally great OS. Motorola Xoom will be running the first Android OS to be specifically targeted on tablet computers. The Android 3.0 Honeycomb offers a user interface optimised for tablet computers and gadgets with large displays. Motorola Xoom tablet, thanks to Android 3.0 will feature Google Maps 5 with 3D interactions, improved multitasking, and offline reliability. Motorola Xoom Tablet features a 10.1-inch capacitive multi-touch touchscreen. The Motorola Xoom offers a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The display is brilliant with a crisp view optimised for HD video. With a Pixel density of 160 dpi, the Motorola Xoom will offer a crispier view than the Apple iPad.
The Motorola Xoom Tablet has two cameras. The rear facing camera of the Motorola Xoom is a 5 megapixel camera with HD video ( up to 720 x 480 pixels) recording capability. Other features of the camera include Autofocus, Dual LED Flash, 8X digital zoom, and so on. Motorola Xoom tablet also features a front facing 2 megapixels camera, which will be great for video calling, but can still be used for taking photos.
Network, Data, and Internet browsing
Motorola Xoom Tablet offers data access on 3G CDMA EVDO Rev A networks. The Motorola Xoom will be upgradable to 4G. It does not support voice calls except through the internet (VOIP). Motorola Xoom Tablet accesses wireless LAN networks with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n support. The Tablet features the Google Chrome browser with multi-tab, full HTML support and flash support. Note that the Wi-Fi only model, will not feature CDMA/3G cellular.
Motorola Xoom supports Bluetooth 2.1 for short-range wireless connectivity. Users can transfer files from/to their computer wirelessly via Bluetooth as well as share content wirelessly with other Bluetooth enabled devices. Motorola Xoom Tablet also features USB 2.0.
Pricing and availability
Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi only Tablet will be available in the United States on March 27 and will come at a price of around 599 USD. The Motorola Xoom 3G + Wi-Fi is currently Available at $999.00. Motorola Xoom 3G + Wi-Fi will probably be available at the Verizon network on contract. UK launch is also in the pipeline. For users expecting the device in Nigeria, note that it is CDMA, so you will not be able to use it in the big four networks.
