Google has launched its own eBook Store. Google eBooks boasts of the largest collection of eBooks in the world with over three million titles already including hundreds of thousands for sale.

Google eBooks is all about choice, your books are stored in the ‘cloud’ so you can read it anywhere you go with almost any device with an internet connection. You can also shop for Google eBooks from independent booksellers, giving you the choice to buy books online wherever you want.

Google eBooks can be read across multiple devices. It is currently fully available in the United States with limited offering worldwide.

With Google eBooks, you can read your books with the Web Reader on your laptop, Tablet, desktop, mobile phones or almost any device with a web browser. Google eBooks Apps is already available for Android devices (from Android 2.1) and iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad (from iOS 3) for improved user experience.

Google eBooks is also compatible with any eBook reader that supports the Adobe eBook platform. This includes the likes of Nook Reader, Sony Readers, Kobo Readers, etc. The beauty of it all is that Google eBooks automatically saves your page positions and sync across all your devices as you continue reading.

This means you can stop reading an eBook on one device and start exactly where you stopped on another device without having to move the book to the new device.

Google eBooks stores your eBooks in the cloud, accessible via your Google Account, making accessing your eBooks as simple as accessing your email. Just get or buy a Google eBook and you can start reading immediately.

For now only users in the US can buy the hundred of thousands of Google eBooks on sale and get millions of Google eBooks for free. Users in other countries can only access some free Google eBooks for now.

Google has digitized more than 15 million books from more than 35,000 publishers, more than 40 libraries, and more than 100 countries in more than 400 languages.

Google eBooks will surely be noticed by the giants in the industry like Amazon and Barnes and Nobles. Google eBooks gives choice to the consumer as bookstores are free to sell their books via Google eBooks store.

This means that readers still control where they buy their books, which is different with the current model. Google eBooks is more like a platform where buyers meet sellers. It will be interesting to know what the response of the established players will be. Will they also sell their books via Google eBooks or will they establish alternative platforms to compete with Google eBooks.
