Checking your WAEC GCE Result

There are three options of checking WAEC results:

  • View and print results at the WAEC Direct portal
  • Receive WAEC results via SMS on your mobile phone
  • Send a copy to your email address

Viewing and Printing your WAEC Result Online

This is the normal way of checking WAEC result, just visit the WAEC result checker website at www.waecdirect.org, and fill the form at the left hand side of the site. You will need the WAEC Result Checker e-PIN.

You will need the PIN on the card and the card serial number to access the WAEC result checker. You will also need your WAEC Examination number, year of examination, and type of examination.

After filling the form, click on submit and if all is well your WAEC result will be displayed. You can either print it out or send it to an email. What ever you do remember you have only five access to your result per WAEC scratch card. Goodluck.

Checking your WAEC Result on a Mobile Phone

You can check your WAEC result via SMS. To check your WAEC Result, May/June and Nov/Dec with a mobile phone, you will need to buy the WAEC Direct e-PIN for ₦3000. Simply send a short code in this format WAEC*ExamNo*PIN*ExamYear to 32327.

For example, if your WAEC Examination number is 78965432, your PIN is 123890, and you sat for WAEC GCE in 2010, send WAEC*78965432*123890*2010 to 32327. The WAEC SMS result checking service costs N30 per SMS and is available only on Glo, Airtel, and MTN networks.

Sending your WAEC Result to your email

With the result checker function at the WAEC Direct website, you can send a copy of your WAEC result to your email address. This will make it easily accessible when ever you need it.

My advise is that you send a copy to your email address when checking your WAEC GCE/SSCE result at the WAEC result checker portal.

This is because you have only 5 access to your WAEC result per e-PIN. Sending a copy to your email means you can access it as many times as you want via your email.

To send your WAEC result to your email, select the Send results to Email option on WAEC result checker, after you have logged in and enter your email address and click submit. A copy of your WAEC result will be sent to your email address.

What is WAEC SSCE/GCE (WASSCE)?

WAEC SSCE (WASSCE) is an examination taken by students at the end of their secondary school education in Nigeria and some West African countries like Ghana, Liberia, and Gambia. WAEC SSCE certificate is a requirement for gaining admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria. WAEC SSCE can also be used for securing jobs. An alternative to WAEC SSCE is the NECO SSCE.

Candidates seating for WAEC SSCE are allowed to select up to nine subjects. Candidates are expected to pass five subjects at credit level to gain admission into a University in Nigeria. Most courses will require that the five credit subject must include English Language and Mathematics.

The West Africa Examination Council, WAEC organises two SSCE examinations, the first which is held in May/June is targeted at those still in Secondary schools and is called WAEC SSCE or WASSCE May/June. The second examination, called WAEC GCE or WASSCE November/December, is for private students and takes place around November/December.

WAEC Result 2014 (GCE)

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC released result of the 2014 Nov/Dec Senior School Certificate Examination (a.k.a GCE) in Nigeria. A break down of the result shows that 29.37% of the 246,853 candidates who sat for the WAEC GCE examination obtained credits and above in five subjects or more (including English and Maths) a microscopic improvement over 2013 GCE result (29.17%).

Here is the breakdown of WAEC November/December 2014 result for Nigeria:

  • Total Candidates that sat for WAEC GCE 2014: 246,853
  • Candidates with fully released WAEC SSCE Result: 241,161 (97.69%)
  • WAEC results still being processed 5,691 (2.31%)
  • Candidates with 5 credits or more (including English & Maths): 72,522 (29.37%)
  • Withheld Result: 28,817

WAEC Result 2014 (SSCE)

Here is the breakdown of WAEC May/June 2014 result for Nigeria:

  • Total Candidates that sat for WAEC SSCE 2014: 1,692,435
  • Candidates with fully released WAEC SSCE Result: 1,605,613 (94.87%)
  • WAEC results still being processed 86,822 (5.13%)
  • Candidates with 5 credits or more (including English & Maths): 529,425 (31.28%)
  • Withheld Result: 145,795 (8.61%)

WAEC Result 2013 (GCE)

Here is the breakdown of WAEC Nov/Dec 2013 result for Nigeria:

  • Total Candidates that sat for WAEC GCE 2013: 296,827

WAEC Result 2011 (SSCE)

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC released results of the 2011 May/June Senior School Certificate Examination in Nigeria.

A break down of the result shows that 51.71% (789,288) of the 1,540,250 candidates who sat for the WAEC SSCE examination got five credits and above. However only 30.70% (472,906) got five credits including English and Mathematics.
