Design and Display
On first glance, the Alcatel 5 is built with thin bezels especially on the side and a metallic paint finish. While it is made of plastic, the build is solid and the edges are sprayed with chrome paint to give it a metallic look. It also looks quite long with the 18:9 aspect ratio with slightly thicker bezels on the top housing the dual camera and sensors. On the back panel, there’s the camera, flash and fingerprint sensor from top to bottom in that order.
For viewing, you will find a 5.7-inch display screen alongside an HD+ resolution. Although, this is on a low side it is rather one of the setbacks of a budget smartphone. However, the colour reproduction is manageable but not as good as in more premium smartphones.
Battery and Camera
Like most budget smartphones, the Alcatel 5 doesn’t come with much battery capacity unless for a select few which are centered on having a large battery. Alcatel 5 sports a 3, 000 mAh battery which is enough for a day of usage on minimal usage.
Following the recent trend of dual cameras on smartphones, the Alcatel 5 has a not too common dual camera lined up front of the smartphone. There is a combination of a 12MP rear camera and a dual 13MP + 5MP front camera.
Hardware and Software
The Alcatel 5 relies on a mid-range MediaTek SoC for handling day to day tasks on the smartphone. On the inside, you will find an Octa-core MediaTek MT6750 chipset alongside a Mali-T860 GPU for graphics rendering.
Also, the Alcatel 5 has a 3GB internal memory alongside a 32GB storage space from the factory with a memory card extension up to 128GB. The disappointing feature, however, is the Android 7.0 Nougat pre-installed rather than the latest Oreo.
