Launched at the Mobile World Congress (2015), Lenovo Tab 2 A8 is an affordable 8-inch Android tablet which looks set to strengthen Lenovo’s presence in the tablet market, along with brother Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70. The relatively well-built slate boasts of specifications that are somewhat impressive for a device in its price range, especially with use of Dolby Atmos technology.
Design and Display
Lenovo Tab 2 A8 features a glossy polycarbonate body and a svelte shape at a thickness of just 8.9 millimetres. The tablet should be easy to carry around at a weight of just 360 grams. It is fitted with an 8.0-inch IPS display that has an HD resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.
Camera and Storage
In the camera aspect, Lenovo decided to go with a 5 megapixels rear camera on the Tab 2 A8. You will find a 2 megapixels snapper for selfies and video chats on the front of the slate as well.
These should not be really disappointing, given the fact that most users do not relish taking images with tablets. On-board storage memory is 16GB and extra space of up to 32GB can be added using a microSD card.
Power and Performance
Lenovo Tab 2 A8 is powered by a 64-bit quad-core MediaTek MT8732 chip running at 1.3GHz and backed by 1GB of RAM. The tablet runs on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop mobile operating system out of the box, unlike its bigger brother the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70.
Processor enables users to take advantage of the 64-bit support of its OS. The slate comes with a 4290mAh battery, which Lenovo says should deliver up to eight hours.
Dolby Atmos
The budget tablet uses Dolby Atmos technology, which enables it to produce superior quality sound, especially when watching movies on the device. The technology makes it possible for users to enjoy surround sound when watching movies.
Although Lenovo Tab 2 A8 has two front-facing speakers, enhanced sound quality is more noticeable when using headphones.
Lenovo Tab 2 A8 is expected to be available in June at a bargain starting price estimated at $129.
