Design and Display
The form factor and design didn’t really change much, we have a very similar design/form factor coming from its predecessor the Zenfone 6.
Both the rear and front panels bear a very similar design. However, please note that the capacitive fingerprint sensor was moved from the rear as we saw on the Zenefone 6, to the side of the Asus Zenfone 7.
Still, on the few design changes, we also get a bigger chassis, which is all thanks to the bigger display, which went from 6.4-inch to 6.67 inches on here.
Asus also made a shift from LCD panels, to featuring an AMOLED panel on the Zenfone 7. This display also has a 90Hz refresh rate which outshines the 60Hz refresh rate on its predecessor.
The story is also pretty much the same with screen real estate. Thanks to the flip camera module, Asus didn’t have to factor in a notch or a camera cut out, as such we have a clean screen slab upfront with minimal bezels.
Speaking on the flip-out camera module, Asus made some efforts to increase the reliability of the flip-out mechanism. Asus claims they ramped up things to allow for 200,000 flips or 100 flips daily for five years, in lieu of the 100,000 flips we got on the Zenfone 6.
Asus didn’t flex muscles on the build property. We have got the same composition from last year. Its the same Gorilla glass 6 upfront, gorilla glass 3 on the rear, and aluminum on the frame.
Much like last year, the available colour variants are sort of far from being generous. Enthusiasts have the option of choosing either Aurora Black or Pastel White.
The Cameras
This year Asus stepped things up a notched and moved from a dual-camera setup on the Asus Zenfone 6 to a triple camera setup on the Zenfone 7.
Thus triple camera setup packs in more pixels alongside more features that appeal to smartphone photography enthusiasts.
The setup comprises of a 64MP primary camera with an aperture of f/1.8, an 8MP telephoto camera with an aperture of f/2.4, and a 12MO ultrawide camera with an aperture of f/2.2.
This setup is capable of recording videos capped at 8k @ 30fps. Other video record modes include 4K@30/60/120fps, 1080p@30/60/240fps, and 720p@480fps.
Thanks to the swivel motion / flip-out the mechanism, this camera module can be used as both the rear and front-facing cameras.
Hardware and Software
Performance-wise, Asus is offering enthusiasts 2020’s flagship specs. For starters, it features an Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, an Adreno 650 GPU, 128GB of internal storage, a non-removable 5000mAh battery.
Asus is offering enthusiasts a 33W fast charge mechanism, with claims that enthusiasts will get a 100% charge in 93 minutes. Enthusiasts have the option of having either 6GB or 8GB of RAM.
On the software side, the Asus Zenfone & runs the ZenUI 7 on top of the Android 10 operating system.

The Asus Zenfone 7 loses the 3.5mm headphone jack that we had on the Zenfone 6. This means enthusiasts who desire private audio streaming will have to make do of a Type-C or wireless headphones.
