Celtel has re-branded to Zain. The rebranding of Celtel coincides with the company’s linking of the Celtel One network (borderless network) Africa with that of the Middle East producing the first intercontinental borderless network in the world. This move is expected will position Zain for global competitiveness and make the telecoms company the one of the top 10 telecommunications firm in the world by 2011.
Before now Zain, borderless network has been limited to Countries within the respective continents. In Africa countries like Nigeria, Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, Chad, Niger, Uganda, Sudan, Gabon, Congo Kinshasa and Congo Brazzaville have been enjoying the Zain one network. Zain One network has been in the following Middle East countries for sometime now Bahrain, Iraq, and Jordan.
The rebranding means that Zain subscribers from any of these countries can now enjoy borderless network in any of these countries (15 countries in all).
A Zain subscriber from Nigeria can visit any of the other 14 African or Middle Eastern countries and still be able to make calls at the same rates that apply in Nigeria. Such a person can also purchase and load credit from any of the 14 African and Middle Eastern countries. In addition, Zain subscribers can receive calls from any of these countries free of charge (without roaming charges).
Zain now boast of over 50 million subscribers and have operations in 22 countries across Africa and Middle East. Zain also has over one million sales outlets in these countries. Zain One network is accessible to over 500 million people.
