There appears to be no movement in cost of internet access in Nigeria since our last report in November. Most of the networks we follow still have the same set of internet bundles all at the same price. Probably networks are still analysing the impact of recent price changes of their internet bundles and that of their competitors. GSM network seems to lead in terms of cost effectiveness and choice.
Cheap Internet Access
Like we stated in the November 2010 report, all GSM operators now offer a monthly internet bundles priced at N1,000. While MTN, Airtel (former Zain), and Etisalat offer 100MB internet bundles at N1,000, Glo mobile is offering a 150MB internet bundle at N1,000 (50% more value than industry standard).
Since prices have not changed since our last report, Etisalat 500MB remains our pick for the best deal for cheap internet access in Nigeria. It offers 500MB data for N3,000. But, if your monthly data needs is less than 300MB, the Glo 150MB is a more cost effective internet bundle offering you 300MB for N2,000.

Value for money Internet Access
Glo mobile, MTN, and MultiLinks offer some of the best value internet bundles in Nigeria. Glo Always Max, a 6GB 30-day internet bundle priced at N7,500, remains the best value for money internet bundle in Nigeria with a score of N1.25/MB.
MultiLinks 6GB internet at a price of N9,900 is still in the second position with a score of N1.50/MB. MTN 5GB internet bundle at N8,000 is third with a score of N1.6/MB. Glo Always Max is still our best pick for users with high data needs, especially if you are on 3G coverage. Because Glo Always Max is just N7,500 it is still in our mid-range value for money internet category.

This report is aimed at providing all the information about internet access cost in one place so that consumers can make a better choice. If you currently access internet at a cheaper cost or at a higher value for money, feel free to contact us about it so that we can add it during our next report. However, the internet package must be legal.
We are interested in 30-day internet packages only. It is our hope that recent launches of fibre optic cable landing by MainOne and Glo will begin to bring down prices as well as increase speed. Our next report will be in April, 2011. Hope a lot would have changed by then. See you then.
