Etisalat DotMe is an SMS based bulletin board service that enables users share information on the go. Any Etisalat subscriber can use the DotMe service to share updates about themselves and activities around them via SMS.
Any mobile subscriber (Etisalat or not) from anywhere in the world with the mobile number of the Dotter (the preferred DotMe jargon for the poster of an update) can access (follow is the preferred Etisalat DotMe jargon) his/her updates.
The beauty of Etisalat DotMe is that it requires no internet access, just the good old SMS. So, any mobile user can use the Etisalat DotMe service irrespective of their type of mobile phone.

Using Etisalat DotMe
With the launch of the Etisalat DotMe service, every Etisalat subscriber now has a personal bulletin board to share their status with the world.
Dotting (posting on your DotMe buletin board) is as simple as sending an SMS containing your update to 8900. Updates can be up to 140 characters.
For example, you can post Reading the Nigeria Technology Guide to 8900. Your status message will be active for 30 days or until you cancel it.
Anybody with your mobile number can dot (the preferred jargon for the process of requesting for a DotMe user’s update) you to access your status.
To follow an Etisalat DotMe user, you have to dot them first by texting a dot (full stop) to their Etisalat number. For example, to follow a DotMe user with number 0809xxxxxxx, dot it by texting . to 0809xxxxxxx. You will receive the latest update they posted via SMS.
Cost of Etisalat DotMe
Dotters can update their status for N1 (One Naira), while followers who are Etisalat subscribers will pay N1 to access an update and subscribers of other networks in Nigeria and worldwide will pay normal SMS rates from their originating network.
So, Dotters pay N1 per status update, while you Dot a Dotter for N1 if you are an Etisalat subscriber or whatever your network SMS rate is, if you are not an Etisalat subscriber.
