Design and Display

The Samsung Galaxy A06 5G has a design that’s similar to the earlier Galaxy A05 model, but it’s thinner and sleeker, giving it a more modern look. The phone is built with a glass front, a plastic back, and a plastic frame. Its size is 167.3 x 77.3 x 8 mm, which makes it comfortable to hold, but it’s a bit on the heavier side at 191 grams. Despite the weight, it still feels sturdy and easy to grip.

On the front, you get a large 6.7-inch PLS LCD display. At the top center of the screen, there’s a small waterdrop-style notch where the 8 MP front camera sits. The bezels around the display are thin on the sides, giving you more screen space, but there’s a slightly thicker chin at the bottom of the screen. Overall, the screen-to-body ratio is 83.8%, which means the display takes up most of the front of the phone.

The screen has a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels, which means images and text look pretty good for everyday use, though not as sharp as higher-end phones. It offers a pixel density of 262 ppi, which is fine for watching videos, browsing the web, or using apps.

One of the key upgrades in this model is the 90Hz refresh rate. This makes the screen feel smoother and more responsive when you scroll through websites, social media, or play games. It’s definitely a noticeable improvement over the 60Hz refresh rate on last year’s model.

The display also has a 20:9 aspect ratio, which gives it a taller screen that’s better for watching videos and browsing, while the 500 nits brightness level is bright enough for most indoor and outdoor use.

On the back of the A06 5G, there are two camera lenses, both housed in separate rings at the top left corner. The main camera is a 50 MP lens, which should capture clear photos, and the secondary 2 MP depth sensor helps with background blur in portraits. Next to the cameras is the LED flash, which helps when you’re taking pictures in low-light situations. The cameras are placed neatly and raised slightly, but not too much, so they won’t be too prone to scratches when you lay the phone down on a flat surface.

The Galaxy A06 5G comes in three sleek and attractive colors – Black, Gray, and Light Green.

When it comes to controls, the right side of the phone has volume buttons and a power button, which also function as fingerprint sensors for unlocking the 5G phone. This makes it easy to unlock your device quickly and securely. On the left side, there’s the SIM tray, which also includes a slot for a microSD card to expand your storage if needed.

At the bottom, you’ll find a speaker grill, a 3.5mm headphone jack (which is great for wired headphones), and a USB Type-C port for charging and connecting to other devices. It’s nice to see the headphone jack still included, especially for those who prefer wired audio.

Camera

The camera on the Samsung Galaxy A06 5G really impresses for a budget phone. The 50 MP main camera takes vibrant, sharp photos in good lighting, with colors that look natural and bright. The Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) ensures that the focus is quick and accurate, so you won’t miss a shot. While it does show some noise in low light, the camera still performs better than expected, and the results are more than enough for everyday use.

The supporting 2 MP depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture, helps create a nice background blur effect for portrait shots. It might not be as precise as higher-end devices, but it adds a professional feel to your photos with decent edge detection and separation between the subject and background. It’s a nice touch for a budget phone.

Video recording is also a highlight. You can record in 1080p at 30fps or 60fps, and both modes offer smooth, clear footage. The 60fps option is great for capturing fast-moving subjects or action scenes, while the 30fps setting is perfect for regular video recording. Even though there’s no advanced stabilization, the video quality is still solid in most situations.

Meanwhile, for selfie lovers, the 8 MP front camera delivers excellent selfies with good detail and true-to-life colors, especially in bright conditions. Even in low light, the camera holds its own better than most budget phones, making it a great option for video calls and social media selfies.

Hardware and Software

When it comes to performance, the Samsung Galaxy A06 5G is powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 6300 chipset, which is built on a 6nm process. This allows for efficient performance, striking a balance between power and battery life.

The octa-core CPU consists of two high-performance Cortex-A76 cores running at 2.4 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores running at 2.0 GHz. This combination ensures that the phone can handle everything from browsing and social media to casual gaming without any noticeable slowdowns.

The Mali-G57 MC2 GPU supports decent graphics, so you’ll be able to play casual games with ease, though it might struggle with more demanding games at the highest settings. For most everyday tasks, though, the phone performs admirably.

In terms of memory and storage, the Galaxy A06 5G comes in several configurations: 64GB of storage with 4GB of RAM, 128GB with 4GB RAM, and 128GB with 6GB RAM. This gives you a good range of options depending on your storage needs.

The Samsung phone also supports microSD cards, allowing you to expand the storage further, but the downside is that the microSD card shares the same slot as the second SIM card. This means you’ll need to choose between using two SIM cards or a SIM and a microSD card. For many users, the 128GB storage option should be more than enough, and the extra RAM in the higher configurations helps with multitasking and running apps more smoothly.

The 5000 mAh battery in the Galaxy A06 5G is a big win, as it ensures the phone can last all day with moderate use. Whether you’re browsing, using social media, watching videos, or texting, the phone has the stamina to keep up. Even with more intense usage, you should be able to get through the day without constantly worrying about recharging. For added convenience, it supports 25W wired fast charging, which means you won’t have to wait long to top up the battery and get back to using your phone.

The Galaxy A06 5G offers a well-rounded experience, especially when considering its price. It runs on Android 15 with One UI 7, which provides a smooth and modern interface. One of the most noticeable features is the new design of One UI 7, with updated icons and quicker access to settings, like the Quick Panel, through simple swipe gestures. This makes navigating the phone feel fast and intuitive.

Additionally, One UI 7 offers more customization options for widgets, giving you the ability to personalize the home screen to your liking. Samsung’s commitment to software updates is impressive as well, with up to 4 major Android upgrades and 4 years of security patches. This means you’ll get the latest features and security improvements for years to come, which is a great benefit for a budget device.

In terms of security, Samsung has included its Knox Vault, which provides an extra layer of protection for your sensitive data. This means your personal information is securely stored and less vulnerable to hacking or unauthorized access. The Voice Focus feature also helps improve call quality by reducing background noise, so you’ll be able to hear and be heard more clearly during phone calls, even in noisy environments.

For durability, the A06 5G is IP54-rated, offering protection against dust and light splashes, so it should hold up well against everyday wear and tear. While it’s not fully waterproof, it’s a nice bonus to know that your phone can handle some exposure to water and dust without worrying too much.

Samsung is also introducing ‘Voice Focus’ in the smartphone for the first time, an India-first innovation designed to enhance call clarity in noisy environments, making conversations clearer and more effective. This feature reflects Samsung’s commitment to bringing meaningful innovations tailored to the needs of Indian consumers. The device also prioritizes security and privacy by incorporating Samsung’s defense-grade Knox Vault security that empowers users to manage their data securely, enhancing their overall experience.

Finally, the Samsung Galaxy A06 5G supports 12 different 5G bands, which ensures a strong 5G connection. This means faster data speeds and better network coverage, perfect for streaming, gaming, and browsing without any interruptions. Whether you’re using it for video calls, watching movies, or downloading large files, the 5G capabilities give you a smooth and fast experience. There is also the Bluetooth 5.3, dual band Wi-Fi 6, and USB Type-C 2.0 port for connectiveity.
